So easy to make at home you’ll likely never buy it again. And the best part is it’s free of any unwanted preservatives or unnecessary sugar and only 2 ingredients!
Have you ever noticed how all of the jams sold at the supermarket have added sugar and other unnecessary ingredients? I’ve always loved jam but I refused to buy it for this reason. If you’ve felt this way too then you need to try this easy and healthy homemade strawberry chia jam! It’s only 2 ingredients. Yep, that’s it!
I love to add it on top of my oatmeal bowl, serve it on top of gluten-free toast or sweet potato toast, or dip some crackers into it for a little healthy snack.
This recipe doesn’t need a sweetener in my opinion, but if you’d like it sweeter you can absolutely add 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup.
Also, the great thing about this recipe is you can substitute the strawberry for really any fruit you’d like. I almost always use strawberries and raspberries as those are my personal favorite.
What makes this recipe turn into a jam-like texture? The chia seeds! After the chia seeds are mixed in and have settled for about 5-10 mins, it forms an almost gel-like consistency.
Chia seeds are also a great source of omega-3s, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins + minerals, and even protein. I love chia seeds!
Ingredients for Healthy Homemade Strawberry Chia Jam:
- Chopped strawberries
- Chia seeds
- Optional: maple syrup
How to Make Healthy Homemade Strawberry Chia Jam:
If you’ve never made jam before, don’t worry it’s SO easy. Just start by washing and cutting up the strawberries into smaller pieces and throw into a pot. I can usually just use a saucepan and it all fits just fine.
If you’d like to add the optional maple syrup, then add this as well.
Then cook on medium heat on the stove while crushing the berries down a bit using a fork. Do this until the berries are broken down and more syrup-like. This usually only takes about 5-10 minutes.
Once all the strawberries are broken down, turn off the heat, add the chia seeds, mix together, and let sit for 5-10 minutes until thickened.
That’s all it takes! Then just store in the fridge and you’re done.
