Have you tried jicama fries yet?! If not, you must! I think I genuinely love these better than regular fries…

To be honest, I hadn’t heard of or tried jicama until a year ago, and once I tried it I was hooked! In case you aren’t familiar with jicama, it’s a root vegetable that has a starchy white inside and can be eaten raw or cooked. It has a very mild flavor so you can really dress it up lots of different ways. Jicama has tons of vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, folate, potassium and magnesium, and is filled with fiber, antioxidants, and water.

One of my favorite ways to eat jicama is to cook it into healthy “fries” with tons of spices! It’s so delicious, extremely healthy and not very hard to make!

Ingredients for Healthy Jicama Fries:

  • Jicama
  • Avocado oil
  • Spices: sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric, and paprika.

How to Make Healthy Jicama Fries:

Jicama fries are not very hard to make, but it does take almost an hour so make sure you have some time.

Start by preheating the oven and peeling and cutting the jicama into fry-like shapes (about 1/4″ thick) or buy pre-cut jicama spears at the grocery store. Then boil the fries in water for about 8 minutes, drain and pat dry. It’s not absolutely necessary to boil the jicama, but if you don’t the fries will be much crunchier. It’s totally up to you!

Now mix jicama fries in a bowl with avocado oil so each fry is lightly coated. Then mix in all the spices. I’ve discovered the key is to really cover those babies with TONS of spices. Go big or go home, right? I don’t have measurements for these spices as you can choose to have as much or as little as you want.

Lay the jicama fries on a parchment paper-lined pan with a little bit of space between fries.

Bake in the oven, flipping halfway, then serve with your favorite dip. I personally love them with mashed avocado but it would also be so tasty with some Primal Kitchen Foods Ketchup, a cleaner and healthier ketchup with no added sugars. Or even just have them plain!

Regarding the spices, I suggest you add in a lot. When I made them, the fries were a deep orange color from all the spices before I put them in the oven.
